Dear Friends/Fam,
It has been a year and a half since we launched our beloved In Stereo in September 2023. Our first edition debuted in what felt like the before times—a post-Covid moment on the cusp of a cultural and emotional upswing; one week before a cascade of devastating world events changed so many of our lives.
The two of us have always loved collaborating—we first met creating a radio documentary series that brought us all around the world. Since then we have continued to work together not just on this Substack, but on several projects for nonprofits like the American Friends Service Committee, the Rhode Island School of Design, and more.
Given our love of telling stories in audio, visuals, and words, today we are announcing the launch of InStereo Studios, a creative production house specializing in bespoke multimedia storytelling that leans into our several decades-long experience as journalists and editors contributing toThe New York Times, Monocle, The Washington Post, NPR and many more. We have always fantasized about what it would look like for this to happen, and in many ways it was the work on this Substack duet (and the overwhelming response; thank you!!) that gave us the confidence to take this next step.
We hope you will help us spread the word, or even better, work with us! As we speak, we have embarked on our first project. Bilal is mid-air and heading from his new home in Ghana to Nairobi for an African arts convening. From there, we will work on several stories for our longtime collaborating partner, the American Friends Service Committee.
Visit InStereos Studios' new website, and let’s keep this conversation going!
Sincerely,
MMK/BQ
